The Gaderin: what it is and how hosts price an experience

The Piku teamUpdated   ·  4 min read

People search "The Gaderin" when a friend sends a link to a pottery class or a hike, or when they host something and want to list it. This post covers both: what Gaderin is, and, for hosts, how to price what you run.

In short
  • Gaderin is a platform for finding, booking and hosting experiences, starting in Accra.
  • Hosts list classes, tours, sport, art, food and nights out.
  • Gaderin says it takes a flat 5% per booking, and nothing on free experiences.
  • Price an experience from your costs per seat, your time and a margin.
  • Piku is not part of Gaderin. It is a separate place for your own rate card, quotes and invoices.

What Gaderin is

From Gaderin's own site, checked on 31 October 2026:

  • What it does. "A platform for discovering, booking, and hosting experiences worth showing up for." Its line is "Gather Differently".
  • Where. It is "starting in Accra, Ghana", with listings in and around the city, such as Aburi and East Legon. Its stated goal is to grow across Africa.
  • What is on it. Food and drink, art and culture, outdoor, workshops, sport and fitness, nightlife, music, tours, photography, cycling, gaming, history and heritage, and parties.
  • Size. Its About page says 10,000+ bookings, 200+ hosts and 600+ experiences listed. These are its own figures.

The site uses the name Gaderin. "The Gaderin" is how many people search for it, and @thegaderin is its handle on social.

If you are looking for something to do this month, browse its activities. We also picked a few in things to do in Accra.

Who hosts on Gaderin

Hosts are the people running the sessions: studios, coaches, teachers, guides and organisers. From Gaderin's hosting page, checked on 31 October 2026:

  • Who can host. Anyone 18 or over who is legally allowed to offer the service.
  • Review. "All activities are reviewed by Gaderin."
  • Fee. "A flat 5% commission" per booking. No fee on free experiences.
  • Payouts. By mobile money or bank transfer, within 1 to 2 business days after a successful booking.
  • Tools. Bookings, payments and guest lists are handled for you, with QR check-in at the door.
  • Public or private. Open sessions, or private ones for groups, birthdays and team outings.

How to price an experience

Whether you list on Gaderin, sell from your own page or both, the sum is the same.

  1. Add up one session's costs. Venue, materials, food, transport, an assistant.
  2. Divide by the seats you expect to fill, not the seats you have. If you usually fill 8 of 12, use 8.
  3. Add your time. Prep, the session and clean-up, at an hourly rate you would accept for any other work.
  4. Add a margin for the sessions that run half empty, and for growth.
  5. Allow for fees. If a platform keeps 5%, check the price still works after that.
  6. Round to a clean number. USD 45, not USD 43.

Example: a pottery class for 8 people.

LinePer sessionPer person
Studio and clayUSD 120USD 15
Your time, 4 hoursUSD 120USD 15
MarginUSD 80USD 10
PriceUSD 320USD 40

Example prices show in USD, or in your local currency in a few countries. On your Piku page, each Rate shows in the currency you set, the same for every visitor, so price in the currency your guests pay in.

Our guide on how to price your services goes further on margin and raising prices.

Private groups, deposits and quotes

Private groups are where pricing gets harder. A team outing, a hen party or a school trip needs a number made for them.

  • Start from your per-person price, with a minimum group size: "USD 40 a person, 10 people minimum."
  • Add what is extra: a private venue, travel to them, food, photos, a longer session.
  • Take a deposit to hold the date. 50% to book and the rest a few days before is common. Our guide on how to ask for a deposit has the words.
  • Put it in writing. Date, group size, what is included, the total and the split. See how to write a quote.
  • Say what happens if they cancel, before they pay.

Where Piku fits

Piku is not part of Gaderin. They are separate products, and there is no partnership between them.

They do different jobs. A Gaderin listing helps new guests find you and book a seat. A Piku page is your own link for the work you price yourself:

A pottery studio's Piku page on the Rates tab: Pottery class, per person USD 40, Private group from USD 400, Team outing from USD 750
Per-person and private-group prices on one link.
  • Rate Card. Your sessions, private groups and other services, each with a fixed price, a starting price or a range.
  • Quotes. A company asks for a team outing. You quote, they accept from a link.
  • Deposits. Add a deposit to the quote. Each part becomes its own invoice.
  • Invoices and receipts. A pay link and a PDF for each invoice, paid by card or mobile money. The receipt sends itself.

Many hosts will use both: Gaderin for public sessions, and a Piku link in their bio for private groups, coaching and anything quoted. Our guide on how to make a rate card shows how to set one up.
